Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister

Alma E. Koronkiewicz (nee Degroot), born May 10, 1931, of Kirklyn, Upper Darby, PA passed on November 2, 2019 at age 88.

Predeceased by her loving family in England, brother David Degroot (Laura), Tony Degroot (Doris), and sister Elaine Cross (Gordon).
Survived by beloved husband for 67 years to Edward F. Koronkiewicz. Survived by her devoted children, sons Br. Edward Koronkiewicz, FSC, David Koronkiewicz (Kate), Alan Koronkiewicz, Thomas Koronkiewicz (Mary), Mitchell Koronkiewicz, and daughter Lynne Keebler (Edward). Cherished grandchildren Elizabeth Koronkiewicz (Jeff Bube), David Koronkiewicz (Corrine), Melissa Kuder (C.r.), Carissa Baker, Joshua Koronkiewicz (Traci), Nicholas Koronkiewicz (Kelsey), Edward G. Keebler II (Kelsey Ploppert), Kyle Keebler (Ling Yeo), Jake Keebler (Val McFarland) and Nathan Koronkiewicz. Also survived by her treasured great-grandchildren Rachel, Alex, Madelynn, David, Charlotte, Katy, Edward, Benji, Joshua, Madison and another great-grandson on his way in February 2020. Survived by her brother Alan Degroot (Mary), as well as many nieces and nephews and their families in England and the US. Special mention to her dear friend for 64 years, Marge Hudson of Ocean View, Delaware.

Alma was born and raised in England. She met her future husband Edward, who was stationed in England with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, at a dance hall in Margate, England. After a brief long-distance courtship, Alma accepted a proposal of marriage and sailed on her own to America to marry Edward on June 28, 1952. They raised their six children together residing first in Southwest Philadelphia for 16 years and then moved to Kirklyn, Upper Darby in 1968. She worked in Center City Philadelphia at Corestate Bank now Wells Fargo for 25 years as a Banking Administrator. She retired in 1991. Family was everything to Alma. She was a tireless grandmother who cared for each of her grandchildren in her home at certain points in their lives. She hosted many family gatherings especially 4th of July parties, which is now a family tradition. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and outings with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alma and Edward spent many multi-generational family vacations in North Wildwood and traveled numerous times to England over the years to visit her family. She was an amazingly caring and compassionate woman whose sweetness and zest for life was felt by all that met her. Alma passed peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Friday, November 8, 2019, 1:00 – 2:15 PM, Kish Funeral Home, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008. Funeral Service to follow at 2:30 PM. Interment Private.
